The Osei Collective is a non-profit, grassroots-led initiative enriching the quality of lives for our members. Our social mission is to:

empower people with disabilities in Ghana to unlock opportunities

Join our mission and radically enhance the prospects for people with disabilities, empowering them with skills for employment and entrepreneurship, leading to financial independence.

Our global vision is to reshape how the world views and values people with disabilities in Africa.

OUR global VISION

Our vision is guided by the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Through our work as a collective, we aim to foster a paradigm shift shattering stereotypes and advocating for the dignity of our members, promoting decent work and equity as part of our social impact agenda across the next 6 years towards 2030.

ABOUT US

OSEI [pronounced o-say] is an acronym - Overcoming Stigma through Empowerment and Inclusion. Osei, a name from Ghanaian origins, means 'noble' and 'honourable' with many mighty Osei’s in history! Our story is rooted in empowerment, inclusion and dismantling harmful stereotypes that people with disabilities are inherently incapable, lack skills, or cannot contribute meaningfully to society.

Our Values

SELF-RELIANCE

Learn More

We champion the spirit of self-reliance, empowering members to define their own path, make choices, and pursue their aspirations with confidence and autonomy.

DIGNITY

Learn More

We honour the worth and value of our members. Our approach is to create inclusive spaces and opportunities where members feel they belong, are accepted and appreciated.

COMMUNITY

Learn More

We are a collective, empowering the communities we serve and growing with those who share our vision to break barriers, shatter stereotypes and reduce stigmas.

WHY WE DO THIS

The Osei Collective emerged in response to witnessing the limited resources and the abundant human potential of individuals with disabilities.

In Ghana and across Africa, persons living with disabilities are among the most marginalised, enduring rights violations such as neglect, violence and prejudice due to their disability.

What If We Could Ignite The Potential Of PWDs In Ghana, Facilitating Their Entry Into The Workforce Or Create Pathways For Entrepreneurship?

We want to start now to recognise PWDs across the continent as contributors to society #LeaveNoOneBehind

OUR MEMBERS

Our members are PWDs in Ghana ages 18-40, with physical or sensory impairments which may hinder their full and effective participation in society (WHO). Parents and Carers of PWDs also have the opportunity to become members of the Osei Collective.

We work closely with our members to identify their talents, skills and passions and, where possible connect them to employment opportunities. We support them to identify, prepare for, seek, acquire and retain the jobs in which they can perform their best.

Our members are deemed the most vulnerable in society and an essential element of the work we do is advocating and safeguarding by protecting their right to live in safety and free from abuse and neglect.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Following a trip to Ghana in 2020, Founder Jessica Quelennec witnessed the polarising challenges faced by people with disabilities (PWDs) living and working on the streets. She learned the harsh reality that poverty and disability mutually reinforce each other, leading to barriers such as stigmatisation and discrimination.

Despite limited resources and barriers to employment – it was clear to see their hope for a better future and continued ambitions to work and be valued within their communities.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

With a drive to reshape the narrative about PWDs and the world of work, she began to craft a vision to leverage this pool of untapped potential. OSEI Collective’s profound commitment to inclusivity is not limited for PWDs in Ghana, but Africa and beyond.

Osei Collective (formerly Osei-Baako Foundation) was founded in 2022. The non-profit re-incorporated in February 2024 to further empower its beneficiaries, with a refreshed strategy and a core mission that remains unwavering.
